Save Time & Money with Online Continuing Education

“Everything requires time. It is the only truly universal condition. All work takes place in time and uses up time. Yet most people take for granted this unique, irreplaceable, and necessary resource. Nothing else, perhaps, distinguishes effective executives as much as their tender loving care of time.” – Peter Drucker (1909-2005)

Working professionals, regardless of their particular industry or expertise, struggle with the same issues:  time management and work/life balance.  In the medical fields, with 12 hour shifts, longer hours and round the clock shifts, these issues become even more pronounced. Respiratory therapists usually work all three shifts on a rotation basis.

Respiratory therapists have round the clock hours as well, whether in a hospital, home health facility, sleep study institute, rehab center or testing lab. Most respiratory therapists work in hospitals for 12 hour shifts either day or night shifts, usually three to four shifts per week.

To add to their demanding work schedule, each of these medical professionals need a fair amount of continuing education per year:

  • Respiratory Therapists requirements are set by individual state boards, but average between 20 to 30 hours of continuing education every two years, with recertifications required annually or biannually depending on the state of residence. To travel for these continuing education courses can incur not only high costs for the employer but also extended time away from family, work and increased stress for the employee. Recent studies have show that business travel averages about $611 per day with cost of meals, car rentals, hotels and travel costs in the U.S.  And these days, travel can induce stress with the long waits, overcrowded flights, navigating in unfamiliar locations and any jet lag or poor quality of sleep away from home.  It may take several days after the trip for the traveler to be a full working capacity, which can also decrease productivity for the employer.
